Case Study: My Experience With Travel

All about Passports

In the US, a passport is same as the driver’s license. It is a very important document that is recognized globally, commonly used for international travel that will verify your identity and what place you are from. Almost all countries need a valid passport for you to enter or exit. Additionally, all countries issue their own internationally recognized passports, including the United States. The U.S. Department of States is the division of the government that has the authority to grant, issue, and verify US passports.

In order to apply for a new passport, you will need some documentation that will prove who you are and the application process usually take some time. For first time US citizens that have never received a passport before need to bring a valid and present driver’s license, birth certificate, two passport photos and also $97 for the fees.

For children under the age of 17 are required to have a passport for most international travel. Children under 14 are required to have their parents’ or guardians’ consent in order to apply for a passport. For children born in the US, that things you need to bring are birth certificate, two photos, and the fees. The guardians of parents of the children are required to show evidence of their citizenship or identity like a birth certificate, valid passport, or driver’s license.

The easiest way to find a passport location near your area is to type travel.state.gov and click on “Passports” then “Where to Apply for a Passport.” The process will take between 2 to six weeks once it has been issued, and then you can get your passport. After getting your valid passport, it will expire after a full ten-year period.

The renewal of your passport is much easier and faster and inexpensive compared to the original issuance. You are eligible to renew your passport if it is not damaged, you have received it within 15 years, and still have the same documentation and name.

In an electronic passport there will be a small integrated computer chip placed on the back of the cover and a digital photograph, this will give people additional benefits. First benefit of this electronic passport is that the data stored will be difficult to alter and infiltrate. Another is that the digital photo in the e-passport will allow for a biometric comparison using facial recognition technology. There will also be a feature included on the electronic passport that will secure anti-fraud.

No matter where you are traveling, it is very important to carry you current and valid passport with. Your passport will be stamped once you entered a foreign country. Upon exiting, the Department of the United States will verify the places you have been, how long you stayed there and what items you have to declare.
